Hand-knotted rugs are more than a simple floor covering. They are hand-crafted works of art.
From Shabby Chic to mint condition, hand-knotted rugs are often precious memories that symbolize the taste and style of who you are and often turn into treasured heirlooms that can be handed down for several generations.
It is our goal to properly clean, repair, and preserve your heirloom rug to it's finest condition, as well as inform our clientele about all of the fascinating aspects and workmanship that goes into this ancient art.
We started our carpet and upholstery cleaning business in the beautiful mother lode in 1995 and a decade later expanded our horizons operating a small specialty rug cleaning business from home.
In 2007 we took the leap and moved into our commercial location in the Ranchos Poquitos Plaza in East Sonora, where we have had the pleasure to clean and restore some of the most beautiful hand-knotted, hand-woven and natural fiber rugs and grow our business.
In 2011, A Pro Rug Cleaning Spa expanded its operations to include the sale of vintage, antique & a few modern hand-knotted & woven area rugs from around the world and also became known as "The Rug Vault" offering fine rugs well below market value.

Rugs can not be identified by design & style alone. To determine whether a rug is tribal, village/cottage or a work shop/city production; construction is the only way a rug can be identified to truly determine its origin, age, and type.
Rugs manufactured after World War II do not appreciate in value, nor will most new and modern rugs that are manufactured presently for todays market.
Rugs produced since the 1970s are of substandard quality, and a new rug purchased today will lose 50% to 75% of their value the moment you bring it home. However any hand knotted rug is still far more superior in quality and can be resold in practically any condition unlike a hand-tufted or machine made rug. Plus a hand-knotted rug will last many years and retain their beauty with proper care.
Only a few traditional Persian rugs are partially determined by knot count. Examples are Nain and Isfahans. New rugs sold with a higher knot count are often sold at a higher cost per square foot, but once they are in the secondary market their value is not based on knot count.
About 80% of soil in rugs, is dry particulate matter. It acts as sandpaper and wears the rug. Ordinary vacuuming only removes surface dirt leaving the majority of fine particle dust imbedded into the wool follicle. Professional dusting is recommended every 18-24 months and restoration cleaning is recommended every two-five years to keep your rugs looking good and minimizing wear.
Helpful Hint:
Avoid vacuuming and destroying your fringe by vacuuming parallel to the fringe.
A well constructed Oriental rug can be wet cleaned after a thorough pre-inspection. Rugs should be tested for the stability of the dyes, as well as the many other inherent problems that comes from cleaning natural fibers. Having a knowledgable professional clean your rug will minimize damage, dye bleed, rippling and rot caused by improper cleaning and drying. Many homeowners unknowingly clean their rugs improperly, and end up imbedding the dirt not dusted out before it was wet cleaned. This causes mottling, reverse piling and future expensive restoration.
Protectant might not make your rug bullet proof, but it does make blotting up spills much more effective and can prevent spots from becoming stains. In general a protectant is always an extra safeguard against permanent stains and costly restoration.
Condition is the most important to determine value. An old rug in poor condition is just an old rug.
Rug pad provides a protective layer between the rug and floor, minimizing slippage, increases the life of the rug and smooths our irregularities in the floor and help absorb noise. Good quality rug pad is recommended.
